Uttar Pradesh sugarcane competition: Sugarcane farmers achieve record yields

Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: A few progressive sugarcane growers in Uttar Pradesh have achieved unprecedented productivity, surpassing the state’s average yield, using advanced scientific techniques and attentive care, reported The Times of India.

Nagendra Singh, a cane grower from the Hardoi district, emerged as the first-prize winner in the state sugarcane competition, achieving a yield of 2,758 quintals per hectare. This is more than three times the state’s average yield of 830 quintals per hectare.

Other winners of the competition included Satya Narayan of Kushinagar district, who bagged the second prize in the plant category for producing 2,446.75 quintals of cane per hectare. Jogendra Singh of Shamli district won the first prize in the ratoon category for achieving a yield of 1,993.05 quintals, while Yogendra Singh of Bulandshahar district was second with 1,970 quintals.

The first prize winner in the plant crop cultivation with drip irrigation category was Rohit Kumar of Muzaffarnagar district, who produced 1,979 quintals of sugarcane per hectare. Shoba Ram of the same district came in second with 1,475 quintals. In the drip system’s ratoon cultivation, Kamal Kant Sharma of Bulandshahar claimed first prize with a productivity of 1,754 quintals. Harveer Arya of Muzaffarnagar district came in second with 1640 quintals.

The cane commissioner of Uttar Pradesh said the government was providing various incentives to sugarcane growers, such as subsidies for drip irrigation and other advanced farming practices. He also urged growers to adopt modern technologies to increase productivity and income.

The sugarcane growers who achieved record yields in Uttar Pradesh are an inspiration to others. Their success shows that it is possible to produce high yields of sugarcane, even in challenging conditions, by using advanced scientific techniques and attentive care. Farmers were awarded with the cash prizes.
