Sao Paulo, Brazil: Brazilian sugarcane industry association UNICA has announced that sugarcane processing and ethanol production were both up during the second half of August, while ethanol sales for the full month were up more than 9 percent from last year, reported Ethanol Producer.
In the south-central region of Brazil, mills processed 46.52 million tons of sugarcane during the second half of August, marking a notable 5.22 percent surge compared to the corresponding period in 2022. Cumulatively, since the commencement of the current harvest season on April 1, total sugarcane processing reached 406.64 million tons, reflecting a substantial uptick of 10.9 percent in comparison to the same period last year.
Ethanol production during the two weeks reached 2.31 billion liters (equivalent to 310.24 million gallons), representing a 2.17 percent increase. This production figure encompasses 1.42 billion liters of hydrous ethanol, a noteworthy rise of 8.13 percent, and 889.73 million liters of anhydrous ethanol, showing a slight dip of 6.08 percent.
