Uttar Pradesh: Sugar mills clear 88.71 per cent cane dues

The Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Department has begun preparations for the upcoming crushing season, with a focus on clearing sugarcane dues to farmers, reported Daily Pioneer.

Government data shows that sugar mills in the state crushed 1098.82 lakh tonnes of sugarcane in the 2022-23 season, producing 10.48 million tonnes of sugar. As of September 22, mills have paid 88.71 per cent of their cane dues to farmers, amounting to Rs 33,756.92 crore.

The State government has consistently prioritized the welfare of sugarcane farmers, disbursing substantial amounts of Rs. 35,158.10 crore, Rs 33,014.44 crore, Rs 35,898.85 crore, Rs 33,048.06 crore, and Rs. 35,444.06 crore for the crushing seasons of 2021-22, 2020-21, 2019-20, 2018-19, and 2017-18, respectively. Additionally, Rs 10,668.94 crore has been allocated to clear previous dues.
