Uttarakhand: Flood affects sugarcane crop in Laksar region

Laksar, Uttarakhand: The submergence of crops around the Ganga and Solani rivers due to incessant flooding has inflicted substantial losses upon local farmers. Among their concerns, the sugarcane crop remains a primary worry, reported Live Hindustan.

Two months ago, the breach of the Solani river embankment resulted in devastating floods in Laksar. Thousands of hectares of crops and the livelihoods of more than 20 villages were affected by the inundation, causing significant damage.

This catastrophe has disrupted the work of various individuals, including professionals, traders, laborers, and, most notably, farmers. While the situation has gradually improved in recent weeks, farmers remain deeply troubled by the consequences of the floods.

According to Surinder Saini, Navab Singh, and Beer Singh, large expanses of sugarcane, rice, and fodder crops around the Ganga and Solani rivers are still submerged. Of all the crops, sugarcane has suffered the most significant losses.
