Punjab: Paddy stubble to be supplied to Bhogpur sugar mill

Jalandhar (Punjab): The Bhogpur sugar mill in Jalandhar district, will use 50,000 metric tonnes of paddy stubble to consume it as a fuel as part of the district administration’s plan to manage paddy stubble through ex-situ methods, reported Hindustan Times.

The plan also includes supplying paddy stubble to brick kilns and boilers as fuel. An estimated 2.36 lakh MT of paddy stubble is expected to be generated in the district during the harvest season.

The district administration has already held deliberations with the management of the various industries where stubble can be used as fuel.

As per news report published in Hindustan Times, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal said that there are around 60 balers in the district that can make three to five quintals of bales. These bales would be directly sold to industries by the farmers or farm groups in the district.

He further specified that the Bhogpur sugar mill is anticipated to receive 50,000 metric tonnes of paddy stubble from Jalandhar, while brick kilns will acquire 1.10 lakh metric tonnes, and boilers will utilize 75,000 metric tonnes of this resource. According to the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, an estimated 9.47 lakh metric tonnes of paddy stubble are expected to be managed through in-situ, ex-situ, and other methods.

The district has recorded eight incidents of stubble burning so far. The administration is taking steps to prevent stubble burning by providing farmers with incentives to use ex-situ methods to manage paddy stubble.
