The sugarcane crushing season 2023-24 has begun in 57 sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh. The remaining mills are expected to start crushing operations in the coming days.
According to the sugarcane department, these 57 sugar mills have crushed 137.66 lakh quintal of sugarcane and produced 11.65 lakh quintal sugar.
The sugarcane department is working to ensure that sugarcane payments are made smoothly and promptly this season. The state government has emphasized full payment of sugarcane dues from the previous season before the start of the new season.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a tough stance on sugarcane payments, and sugar mills have stepped up their payments as a result. The government has also taken steps to ensure that sugarcane is delivered to mills promptly.
The sugarcane industry is a major contributor to the economy of Uttar Pradesh.
