National Sugar Institute to start short term course on “Sugar Refinery Operations”

In order to provide competent manpower well versed in refined and specialty sugar production, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur will start a short term course on “Sugar Refinery Operations” from April 2024.

Till couple of years back, country used to produce only white sugar by Sulphitation Process but to cope up with the requirement of industrial users and also considering consumer preferences for better quality sugar, out of the 532 operational sugar factories, about 80 factories have converted their process to refined sugar or Sulphur-less sugar.

The processing technique in case of sugar refineries being different, sugar units are facing crisis in getting the required operational staff. Thus, after having dialogue with reputed sugar companies and apex organizations, we considered starting a three month’s duration course on subject matter for the 12th pass persons of science background already working in sugar factories to upgrade their knowledge, said Prof. Narendra Mohan, Director.

The course shall have 20 seats and to be conducted during April- June when classes for most the other courses remain off and hence no additional infrastructure of classrooms, laboratories and hostel shall be required. Academic council of the institute has already consented the proposal and we propose to conduct the entrance exam for this course in March 2024 said Shri Ashok Garg, Education In-charge.
