Controversy over selling of seven Uttar Pradesh government-owned sugar mills during the previous Mayawati regime is refusing to die down. Now, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is set to probe alleged irregularities in the sugar mill scam.
ED official said, “We will write to CBI seeking documents related to an FIR registered on selling sugar mills. After obtaining the documents, we will begin a probe.”
After receiving a recommendation for a CBI probe, the central agency had lodged FIR against seven persons for forgery and other irregularities.
Overall 21 sugar mills were sold during the Mayawati regime.
“The FIR has been lodged in connection with the sale of seven sugar mills. Preliminary inquiries are being done for the remaining 14 sugar mills, and if any irregularity is found, FIR will be registered, ” CBI officer was quoted as saying by IndianExpress.com.
