Gonda: 1516 hectares of fields to be irrigated on Gujarat model

Gonda: The district is set to adopt an irrigation system for sugarcane crops based on the Gujarat model. Farmers have been advised to embrace drip irrigation for sugarcane crops for the first time. This move is expected to increase yields for sugarcane, mustard, and vegetable crops while also strengthening water conservation efforts, reported Amar Ujala.

Officials revealed that the drip irrigation method, as part of Gujarat’s Drop More Crop-Micro Irrigation initiative, is being implemented for sugarcane crops in the district. Adequate arrangements will be made for irrigation across 1,516 hectares of fields for various crops.

As per media report, farmers are eligible for discounts ranging from 80 to 90 percent provided by the government, allowing them to enhance their income while benefiting from irrigation facilities. Selection will be based on a first-come, first-served basis.

The implementation of the sugarcane irrigation system in the region is being supported by technical assistance from Gujarat Green Revolution Company, ensuring transparent and effective application of micro-irrigation practices. A target of 640 hectares has been set for sugarcane cultivation, with a budget allocation of Rs 6.38 crores. Officials anticipate not only increased crop yields but also improved water conservation through modern techniques.

Officials reported that 251 applications have been received for irrigation across 317 hectares.
