Lucknow: Minister Chaudhary Lakshmi Narayan said on Thursday that the state government will soon announce sugarcane price for the current crushing season, reported Live Hindustan.
The minister said that meetings will be held with sugarcane farmers and sugar mill representatives to finalise the price. He also said that no sugar mill in Bijnor district has any outstanding sugarcane dues.
In response to a question raised by Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) MLA Prasanna Kumar about the outstanding sugarcane dues and the farmers’ protest, the minister said that if the mill management violates the terms of the agreement reached with the farmers’ representatives, action will be taken.
He demanded that the sugarcane price for the current crushing season be Rs 450 per quintal.
Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Manoj Kumar Paras said that the prices of all other crops have increased, but the price of sugarcane has not been raised.
SP MLA Chandan Singh Chauhan said that it is very important to announce the sugarcane price on time. He said that the crushing season has been going on for over a month and a half, but the sugarcane price has not yet been announced.
