Sugarcane crushing season in Karnataka has picked up pace and 73 sugar mills have commenced the crushing operations. State has witnessed dip in sugar production but average sugar recovery rate is high as compared to previous season.
According to data from the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF), as of November 30, 2023, Karnataka’s average sugar recovery rate is 8.50%, up from 8.00% at this time last season. The state has crushed 129.41 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 11 lakh tonnes of sugar.
In the previous season on the same date, Karnataka had crushed 151.88 lakh tonnes of sugarcane and produced 12.15 lakh tonnes of sugar.
The NFSCF estimates that Karnataka’s sugar production will reach 38 lakh tonnes this season.
India’s sugar production has reached 43.20 lakh tonnes as of November 30, 2023, down from 48.35 lakh tonnes at this time last season.
