Gohana, Haryana: The Chau. Devi Lal cooperative sugar mill in Ahulana has slowed down its operational pace due to insufficient sugarcane supply, reported Amar Ujala.
The mill requires 30,000 quintals of sugarcane per day for operations but is currently receiving less than 20,000 quintals per day.
Cane crushing operations at the mill began on December 5 but unable to crush with full capacity due to the lack of sugarcane. Officials have distributed sugarcane receipts to farmers for one lakh quintals of sugarcane, but the cane is not arriving. Farmers say they are unable to find laborers to help them transport the sugarcane to the mill.
The low supply has forced the mill to operate at a reduced capacity. On Sunday, the mill processed just 19,000 quintals of sugarcane. The reduced operations are causing financial losses for the mill.
“The sugarcane supply to the mill is low,” said Manjit Dahiya, the mill’s sugarcane manager. “Due to the lack of sugarcane, the mill is operating at a reduced capacity. We are sending messages to farmers to bring sugarcane to the mill. Once we have sufficient sugarcane, the mill will operate at full capacity.”
