Maharashtra: Bidri sugar mill sweetens deal for farmers with highest FRP in Maharashtra

Kolhapur: The Bidri Cooperative Sugar Factory, situated in the district, has declared the highest Fixed Remunerative Price (FRP) of Rs 3,407 per tonne for sugarcane in the entire state of Maharashtra for the current crushing season, reported Uniindia.

In the recent elections, Former MLA K P Patil secured all 25 seats, ensuring his continued influence over the mill, and was subsequently re-elected as the new chairman during the first meeting of the elected body, presided over by election officer Arun Kakade on Friday.

Upon assuming the chairmanship, Patil announced the FRP of Rs 3,407 per tonnes for sugarcane, a rate considered the highest in the state. In the previous year, the Bidri factory had set an FRP of Rs 3,209 per tonne for sugarcane with a 12.62 percent recovery rate.

It is worth noting that Raju Shetty, a prominent farmers’ leader associated with Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, recently led a protest, advocating for an elevated FRP per tonne of sugarcane for the ongoing crushing season.
