Domestic sugar prices reported to be stable

Sugar prices have been reported to be stable across the major markets, after remaining weak since the beginning of the week. Trading activity was reported to be thin. Prices are expected to remain low due to the ongoing crushing season; buyers prefer hand-to-mouth transactions. Furthermore, higher sugar production as a result of the ethanol ban on direct cane juice production is putting pressure on prices.

In Kolhapur, S-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,520 and Rs 3,600 per quintal, while M-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,800 and Rs 3,850 per quintal in Muzaffarnagar. According to Agrimandi, S grade sugar will trade in Kolhapur markets between Rs 3,450 and Rs 3,650 in the next two weeks.
