Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed immense gratitude towards the Centre for lifting the ban on the use of sugarcane for ethanol production, terming it a significant relief for farmers. He extended thanks to Union Minister Amit Shah for the pivotal decision, highlighting its positive impact on cane growers.
In a statement released by his office on X, CM Eknath Shinde conveyed, “The central government’s approval for ethanol production from sugarcane is a welcomed move. This decision brings considerable relief to our sugarcane farmers. I extend heartfelt appreciation to the central government and Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.”
The Centre, on December 7, had initially imposed a ban on the use of sugarcane juice and sugar syrup for the 2023-24 supply period to manage sugar supply and stabilize prices. However, this decision was later reversed.
“During discussions with Union Minister Amit Shah regarding sugarcane availability and sugar production in our state, he promptly understood the situation. This allowance will facilitate ethanol production in sugar mills,” mentioned the Maharashtra CM, citing media reports.
CM Shinde emphasised the seamless collaboration between the central and state governments, affirming that such coordination is instrumental in making decisions beneficial for farmers.
