Amroha: The Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has threatened to hold a protest in Lucknow on December 26 if the Uttar Pradesh government does not announce a favorable sugarcane price soon, reported Live Hindustan.
National Secretary of the party, Munshiram Pal, arrived in Amroha and unequivocally urged party workers to rally farmers.
On Wednesday afternoon, Munshiram Pal Singh visited the residence of RLD district president Manveer Singh Chikara at Awas Vikas Pratham in the city. He stated that if the state government fails to announce a remunerative price for sugarcane by December 23, a sit-in agitation will be organized in Lucknow on December 26, involving party officials, workers, and farmers from all districts of Western Uttar Pradesh.
Emphasizing the vital role of sugarcane cultivation in the livelihoods of farmers throughout the year, Munshiram Pal Singh stressed the necessity of providing farmers with a fair price for their sugarcane. The party’s demand is for the announcement of a sugarcane price of Rs 450 per quintal, and no compromise will be entertained below this threshold.
Singh highlighted the increased costs of cultivation in the current season, compounded by adverse weather conditions affecting the farmers. He also underscored the pending issues related to sugarcane pricing, including outstanding payments and interest, urging the government to address these concerns promptly.
