The domestic benchmark indices ended higher on December 21.
Sensex ended 358.79 points up at 70,865.10, whereas Nifty concluded 104.90 points down at 21,255.05.
Top gainers on the Nifty were BPCL, Power Grid Corporation, Britannia Industries, HDFC Bank and Hindalco Industries, while losers were Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, HCL Technologies and Cipla.
Indian rupee ended 10 paise lower at 83.27 per dollar versus previous close of 83.17.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 930.88 points down at 70,506.31, whereas Nifty concluded 302.95 points down at 21,150.15.
