Nanded Division in the state of Maharashtra has gained momentum in sugarcane crushing. According to the figures from the Sugar Commissionerate, as of December 20, 2023, a total of 29 sugar mills in the Nanded Division have commenced crushing for the 2023-24 season. This includes 10 cooperative and 19 private sugar mills, resulting in the crushing of 3.806 million metric tonnes of sugarcane.
Up to now, Nanded Division has produced a total of 3.266 million quintals (326.6 thousand metric tonnes) of sugar. The current average sugar recovery in the division stands at 8.58 percent.
Taking into consideration the entire state of Maharashtra, a collective total of 192 sugar mills have initiated crushing. Among them, 94 are cooperative and 98 are private sugar mills, contributing to the crushing of 33.227 million tonnes of sugarcane.
The overall sugar production in the state has reached approximately 28.588 million quintals (2.858 million metric tonnes) so far. The current average sugar recovery in the state stands at 8.6 percent.
As of now, Nanded Division ranks fifth in sugar production within the state. The leading division in sugar production is Kolhapur.
