The domestic benchmark indices ended lower on January 03.
Sensex ended 535.88 points lower at 71,356.60, whereas Nifty concluded 148.45 points down at 21,517.35.
Most sectors wiped off losses to trade in positive territory in the later half of the session. The Nifty PSU Bank was the star sectoral gainer, surging over a percent. Realty and oil & gas indices were also among the top gainers.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 379.46 points lower at 71,892.48, whereas Nifty concluded 76.10 points down at 21,665.80.
