The domestic benchmark indices ended higher on January 04.
Sensex ended 490.97 points higher at 71,847.57, whereas Nifty concluded 141.25 points up at 21,658.60.
Indian rupee ended marginally higher at 83.23 per dollar versus previous close of 83.28.
Bajaj Finance, NTPC, ONGC, Tata Consumer and IndusInd Bank are among the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included BPCL, LTIMindtree, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, HCL Technologies and Hero MotoCorp.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 535.88 points lower at 71,356.60, whereas Nifty concluded 148.45 points down at 21,517.35.
