National Sugar Institute’s 51st convocation to be held on January 12

The 51st Convocation of the National Sugar Institute is to be held on 12th January 2024 for distribution of titles to the students of 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-23 batches. While Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Minister of State, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Rural Development, Government of India has consented to be the Chief Guest, Shri Aswani Srivastava, Joint Secretary (Sugar) shall also grace the function as Distinguished Guest.

During the convocation, titles shall be distributed to about 745 students passed during these academic years. During the convocation prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Gold Medal awarded by Government of India shall be given to the topper of Sugar Technology course. For the first time, for the year 2022-23, Mahatma Gandhi Gold Medal shall be given to an overseas student, Mr. Samson Akore Adeoye of Nigeria, said Shri Narendra Mohan, Director, National Sugar Institute, Kanpur.

In addition to it, other prestigious awards viz. Shrijee Future Leader Award, ISGEC Excellence Award, C V Subbarao Excellence Award and Praj Excellence Award shall also be given to the meritorious students of various other courses. Besides these, various cash awards constituted by Indian Sugar Mills Association, National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories and Global Cane Sugar Services Pvt. Ltd. shall also be given by the hands of the Chief Guest added Director, National Sugar Institute. During the convocation, 17 medals and 40 cash awards shall be conferred to the meritorious students of various courses, added Director.

Incidentally, convocation is being organized on a date which happens to be birthday of Swami Vivekanand and celebrated as “National Youth Day” and so we will start the convocation proceedings after paying floral tributes to him, informed Shri Virendra Kumar, Controller of Examinations.
