Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the government is set to launch a portal connecting corn farmers with ethanol-producing factories, similar to the recently launched portal for the registration, purchase, and payment of tur dal-producing farmers.
The National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumer’s Federation of India (NCCF) will initiate the portal for corn, aiming to bolster India’s ethanol production.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target of achieving 20 percent ethanol blending with petrol. To support this goal, NAFED and NCCF will introduce a portal facilitating registration, purchase, and payment for corn farmers. Shah explained, “We will directly link the corn growers to ethanol-producing factories who will purchase it at the MSP (minimum support price). Think of it like this: your farms will not be growing corn but will become petrol-producing wells.”
The government aims to achieve 20 percent ethanol blending in petrol by 2025-26. The recently launched portal for tur dal aims to enhance production through better prices, a streamlined process, and direct bank transfer payments. Farmers can register on the portal and sell their tur produce at the MSP or the market price, whichever is higher.
