BSF thwarts sugar smuggling attempt in Meghalaya

Shillong: In a proactive move, the vigilant troops of the 4th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya successfully intercepted a vehicle and apprehended two persons engaged in smuggling activities.

The operation, conducted near the Lyngkhat bordering area in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, resulted in the seizure of a significant quantity of smuggled sugar destined for Bangladesh, as reported on Wednesday.

According to the media reports, the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs. The BSF Meghalaya team, acting on the received information, identified and intercepted a vehicle loaded with sugar en route to the bordering area on the Lyngkhat-Pyrdwah road. Upon closer inspection and questioning, the driver and co-driver of the vehicle failed to produce valid documents for the consignment of sugar.

The confiscated sugar, intended for illegal transportation across the Bangladesh border, raised concerns about potential illegal trade activities. The vigilant BSF troops promptly took control of the situation and handed over both the apprehended individuals and the confiscated sugar to the relevant local police station for further legal proceedings.
