Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal firmly stated on Saturday that there are no plans to lift the government’s ban on the export of wheat, rice, and sugar.
“There is no proposal as of now to remove export restrictions on wheat, rice and sugar. India will not import wheat or sugar either,” Goyal told media persons.
The government had imposed the export ban on these food items with the aim of boosting domestic availability and curbing rising prices, which were contributing to inflationary pressures in the economy.
