Malaysia: Labuan’s sugar shortage to be resolved by Wednesday, says minister

Cyberjaya: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali has assured that the shortage of sugar supply in Labuan will be resolved by Wednesday at the latest, reported Malaymail.

In response to an official complaint from Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman about the disruption, Armizan took swift action, and 118.8 tonnes of sugar have been dispatched from Sabah and peninsular Malaysia to Labuan for distribution to wholesalers and traders.

Promptly addressing the issue, Armizan stated that an additional sugar supply from Port Klang has been sent to Labuan, expressing confidence that the matter will be resolved. He made these remarks during a press conference after attending the final round of the 2024 Inter-Higher Education Institution (IPT) Consumerism Debate Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Cup.

The shortage of sugar supplies in Labuan had been reported by a news portal, and consumers had also raised concerns on Facebook. Armizan identified the distant location of Labuan from the source of sugar supplies as the main issue, significantly impacting the supply chain.
