Lucknow: An increase in the sugarcane cultivation area is being observed in the state of Uttar Pradesh, accompanied by a growing trend among farmers towards sugarcane farming. In the current season, the sugarcane cultivation area is the highest in the past seven years.
According to the figures from the Sugarcane Department, the total sugarcane cultivation area in Uttar Pradesh for the 2023-24 season has reached 29.66 lakh hectares, which is 9.12 lakh hectares more than the sugarcane cultivation area in the 2016-17 season, marking the highest in recent years.
The Sugarcane Department reports that the expanding sugarcane cultivation area is proving beneficial for farmers, and there is an increasing interest among them in sugarcane farming.
Looking at the statistics, as of January 15, 2024, the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF) indicates that 465.66 lakh tons of sugarcane have been crushed, resulting in a sugar production of 46.10 lakh tons.
