Kurukshetra: Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that once voted to power, the Congress would ensure that sugarcane farmers receive Rs 450 per quintal for their produce, reported PTI.
Expressing concern over the declining groundwater level in the Dadupur-Nalvi canal area, Hooda warned that this could negatively impact sugarcane cultivation and jeopardize the future of the sugarcane industry. He criticized the BJP government for scrapping the Dadupur Nalvi Canal project, which was initiated during the Congress government, and vowed to reinstate it for the benefit of the sugarcane farming community.
Hooda advocated for fair prices for sugarcane farmers in northern Haryana, emphasizing that they are currently not receiving just compensation for their produce. He promised that if the Congress forms the government in Haryana, sugarcane rates would be raised to at least Rs 450 per quintal, compared to the present Rs 386. Additionally, he outlined various initiatives aimed at supporting sugarcane farmers, including a monthly pension of Rs 6,000 for the elderly, an LPG cylinder for Rs 500, and free electricity of up to 300 units for every family involved in sugarcane cultivation.
In light of the alleged attack on the Congress’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Assam, Hooda framed it as an assault on democracy and expressed solidarity with the sugarcane farming community, emphasizing the need to safeguard their interests. He urged party workers to actively participate in the ‘Ghar-Ghar Congress, Har Ghar Congress’ campaign, emphasizing the importance of addressing the concerns of sugarcane farmers in the state.
