The USDA’s recently released Grain Crushings and Co-Products Production report for January unveils noteworthy trends in corn utilization for fuel ethanol production. In November, corn consumption for fuel ethanol experienced a marginal decline compared to the previous month but demonstrated a positive upswing compared to November 2022, according to ethanolproducer.
During November, the total corn consumed for alcohol and other purposes stood at 505 million bushels, reflecting a 1% decrease from the preceding month. However, this figure marked a 1% increase when compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. Of this total, 92.4% was allocated for alcohol production, with the remaining 7.6% utilized for other purposes.
Specifically focusing on fuel alcohol production, corn consumption reached 455 million bushels in November. This represented a 1% decline from October but showcased a 1% growth when contrasted with November of the previous year. The breakdown for corn consumed in dry milling and wet milling fuel production was 92.1% and 7.9%, respectively.
Within the domain of dry mills, various co-products exhibited notable production figures in November. Condensed distillers solubles production rose to 122,984 tons, a surge from the previous month’s 144,333 tons and a substantial increase from November 2022’s 98,182 tons. Corn oil production witnessed a slight decrease from October but recorded an uptick from the same month the previous year, reaching 188,008 tons. Distillers’ dried grains production slightly declined to 399,555 tons compared to the previous month but demonstrated growth compared to November 2022. Distillers’ dried grains with soluble production reached 1.8 million tons, and distillers’ wet grains production declined to 1.37 million tons.
In wet mills, November saw an increase in corn germ meal production to 61,690 tons, while corn gluten feed production decreased to 242,462 tons, and corn gluten meal production fell to 110,684 tons. Wet corn gluten feed production also witnessed a decline to 202,534 tons.
For both dry and wet mills, carbon dioxide captured experienced a decrease to 198,060 tons in November, down from both the previous month and November 2022.
