Former minister and BJP leader, Harshvardhan Patil, has been elected as the President of the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) unopposed. He is a well-known figure in the cooperative sector of the state.
Besides this, Ketanbhai Patel has been appointed Vice President of the NFCSF.
Patil was one of the few ministers who was presiding as a minister for four consecutive terms (1995-2014) in Government of Maharashtra. He has shouldered responsibilities of Cooperative Ministry. He is known for cordial relations with all party members.
He was elected MLA as an independent in 1995, 1999, 2004. In 2009 he was elected MLA as a Congress candidate. He was appointed as co-operation and parliamentary affairs minister in Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan’s ministry. He quit Congress in September 2019 after a long association with it.
Speaking to ChiniMandi, Patil said, “I will try to do justice to the post of NFCSF President through my work. Through this role, efforts will be made to contribute to the development of the country’s sugar industry and the advancement of all institutions and organizations associated with it.”
His extensive experience as an ex-Cooperation Minister of Maharashtra, Chairman of the Nira-Bhima Cooperative Sugar Factory for a long time, Council member of VSI, advocacy for the cooperative movement, leading member of BJP, and recent election as a Director of the NCDC, New Delhi, will likely contribute positively to addressing challenges within the sugar industry.
