Coimbatore: The district administration has urged farmers to enroll their sugarcane crops in the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme) to receive assistance for crop loss caused by natural disasters, pest infestations, or disease outbreaks during the current season, reported The Hindu.
A release from S. Vengadesan, Joint Director of Agriculture, said farmers in the revenue villages under the 30 firkas can join the scheme for which they must pay an insurance premium of ₹3,115 per acre to IFFCO-Tokio General Insurance Company. The compensation per acre has been fixed at ₹62,300.
Farmers can approach Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies or nationalized banks to pay the premium. To register, they must submit essential land documents including ‘chitta’, ‘adangal’, a photocopy of the front page of their bank passbook, and Aadhaar card by March 30, as per release.
