Indian Railways is poised to achieve its highest-ever performance in recorded history across various metrics for the Financial Year 2023-24. Preliminary data indicates that on March 15th, 2024, Indian Railways surpassed an originating Freight loading of 1500 million tonnes, marking a significant milestone. This surpasses the previous record of 1512 million tonnes achieved during FY 2022-23.
Furthermore, the total revenue for Indian Railways in FY 2023-24 has reached Rs 2.40 trillion as of date, demonstrating substantial growth compared to the same period last year, which stood at Rs 2.23 trillion—an increase of Rs 17,000 crores. The total expenditure for Indian Railways in FY 2023-24 stands at Rs 2.26 trillion.
The total number of passengers travelled during FY 2023-24 has reached 648 crores, marking an increase of 52 crores compared to the corresponding period last year, where the total number of passengers travelled was 596 crores.
