Sensex and Nifty closed with significant gains on Thursday, March 21, on across-the-board buying amid positive global cues after the US Fed signalled on Wednesday it could cut rates three times this year.
Sensex ended 539.50 points higher at 72,641.19, whereas Nifty concluded 172.85 points up at 22,011.95.
NTPC, BPCL, Power Grid, Tata Steel, and Coal India were among the top gainers in the Nifty basket, closing with gains of around 4-3 per cent. On the other hand, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Life, Maruti Suzuki, ICICI Bank, and ONGC were among the top losers.
Positive global cues, dovish Fed and indications of three rate-cuts in 2024 led to a broad-based buying in the market.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 89.64 points higher at 72,101.69, whereas Nifty concluded 21.65 points up at 21,839.10.
