Mathura: The revival of the Chhata Sugar Mill faces further delays as the tender process has been canceled for the fourth time. The latest round of bidding attracted bids from three companies, but their financial bids exceeded the project’s estimated cost, leading to the cancellation.
A fresh tender has been issued, with bids to be submitted by May 2nd and opened on May 3rd. The mill’s modernization, estimated to cost around 500 crores, will be carried out in three phases. The first phase will involve setting up a 3000 TCD cane crushing plant, followed by a 60 KLPD distillery plant in the second phase. A logistics park will be established in the third phase. An ethanol plant will also be installed at the mill.
The closure of the Chhata sugar mill led to a sharp decline in sugarcane cultivation in the district. However, with the mill’s revival on the horizon, farmers have once again started showing interest in sugarcane farming.
Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui, Executive Director, of Chhata Sugar Mill, said that the revival of the mill is expected to boost the district’s economy and generate significant employment opportunities. The district has 678 villages under the jurisdiction of the cane committee, with 44285 registered cane farmer members.
