Haryana: Saraswati sugar mill ends sugarcane crushing season

Yamunanagar, Haryana: Saraswati sugar mill closed early on Friday morning due to a shortage of sugarcane. The mill had been facing a decline in cane supply for several days, making it uneconomical to continue operations, reported Amar Ujala.

The mill management had previously issued a notice to farmers, warning that it would close on March 31st if cane supply did not improve. The deadline was later extended to April 5th.

The mill managed to work for 157 days and process 1,46,630 quintals of sugarcane, falling short of its target.

The reduced sugarcane yield has increased worry among farmers and mill management. Saraswati Sugar Mill had set target to process 1,75,000 quintals of sugarcane this year, but due to insufficient supply, it had to stop operations seven days earlier than last year. This early shutdown has been attributed to the sharp decline in sugarcane arrivals since March 15.
