According to the latest Central Water Commission (CWC) report, water available in reservoirs across the country as of 18th April 2024 is 56.085 BCM, which is 31% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. Last year the live storage available in these reservoirs for the corresponding period was 67.575 BCM, thus, water available in the 150 reservoirs is 83 % of the live storage of the corresponding period of last year.
In the northern region, water available in 10 reservoirs is 6.396 BCM which is 32.5% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 38%. Thus, storage during the current year is less than the corresponding period of last year.
In the eastern region, water available in the 23 reservoirs is 8.292 BCM which is 40.6% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 35%, indicating better availability in these reservoirs.
In the western region, water available in the 49 reservoirs is 12.584 BCM which is 33.9 % of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 41%. Thus, storage during the current year is less than the storage of last year.
In the central region, water available in 26 reservoirs is 19.497 BCM which is 40% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 44%, thus indicating a shortfall in water storage in these reservoirs.
In the southern region, water available in the 42 reservoirs is 9.316 BCM which is 17% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 30%. Thus, storage during the current year is less than the storage of the corresponding period of last year.
