In an announcement on April 26, the food ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 27 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for May 2024, which is 3 LMT higher than the quantity allocated in May 2023 (24 LMT). It will be applicable from May 1, 2024.
In April 2024, the allocated sugar quota for domestic sale was 25 LMT.
According to market experts, sugar quota of 27 LMT will be sufficient for the domestic market due to summer demand. The market is expected to remain positive.
India Meteorological Department on Friday said that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions likely to continue over East and south Peninsular India during the next 5 days.
“Heatwave conditions in isolated pockets over Bihar, Jharkhand, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, East Uttar Pradesh during the next 5 days; Kerala & Mahe during 26th-28th; Konkan during 27th-29th and West Uttar Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam during 28th-30th April 2024,” IMD said in a statement.
