BSF seizes 10,000 kg of sugar to be smuggled to Bangladesh

Shillong: The Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya Frontier, seized 10,000 kg of sugar near Bholaganj in East Khasi Hills district on Monday. The sugar was being smuggled to Bangladesh. Close to the international border, security personnel apprehended two Indian nationals connected to the seizure, reported The Times of India.

“Based on specific information, the BSF identified and intercepted a truck loaded with the sugar. Upon questioning, the driver and co-driver failed to produce any valid documents about the consignment,” a BSF spokesperson at the Shillong headquarters said on Tuesday.

The seized sugar and the apprehended individuals were handed over to the Customs office at Bholaganj for further legal action.

Earlier this month, the BSF intercepted another vehicle carrying 13,000 kg of sugar, also being smuggled to Bangladesh. Two individuals from Assam’s Karimganj district were apprehended near the Kuliang border area in the East Jaintia Hills district. The vehicle had originated from Kalain in Assam’s Cachar district and was headed towards the Kuliang border area.
