Kalaburagi: Farmers warn of protest over unpaid sugarcane dues

Kalaburagi, Karnataka: Sugarcane growers in Kalaburagi district have demanded that KPR sugar mill pay them their outstanding dues. They accused the mill in Chinamagera of cheating them by withholding payments, which they claim amount to Rs 16 crore. Ramesh Hugar, president of the Sugarcane Growers’ Association in the district, recently met with the sugar commissioner in Bengaluru, urging legal action against the mill management, reported The Times of India.

A memorandum has been submitted regarding this issue. Despite the district mills’ promise to pay Rs 2,550 per tonne, KPR factory has only paid Rs 2,500 per tonne, keeping a balance of Rs 50 per tonne, the growers stated. Hugar warned that if the dues are not paid, the growers will launch a protest in front of the mill and will prevent it from operating.
