Would urge State government to digitalise whole process to help sugarcane farmers: Kurubur Shanthakumar

Hubbali: Farmers’ leader Kurubur Shanthakumar has called on Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, to address the issue of insufficient grants to Karnataka for the procurement of foodgrains under the minimum support price (MSP). Shanthakumar urged the minister to secure increased allocations from the Centre, reported The Hindu.

He noted that Uttar Pradesh has digitalized sugarcane procurement by sugar mills, ensuring timely payments to farmers. In contrast, Karnataka has pending payments totalling ₹700 crore to farmers. He will urge the state government to digitalize the procurement process to benefit farmers and initiate criminal proceedings against sugar mills defaulting on payments.
