India Chair of ISO: New Delhi to host prestigious 64th Council meeting

The International Sugar Organization (ISO), an intergovernmental entity based in London, plays a pivotal role in fostering global collaboration within the sugar sector. Committed to maintaining the stability and sustainability of the worldwide sugar market, ISO engages member countries through debates, analysis, special studies, transparent statistics, seminars, conferences, and workshops.

In 2023, at the 63rd council meeting, ISO announced India to be the Chair of the organization for 2024 marking a huge achievement and acknowledgement of India’s commitment to the global sugar sector and a reflection of its growing stature of the country in this domain.

Under this new leadership, New Delhi will host the 64th International Sugar Council meeting from June 24-27, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam.

Spearheaded by Sanjeev Chopra, the much revered Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India and the Chair of the International Sugar Council, the event promises to be a landmark occasion.

The ISO week begins on Monday, i.e. 24th June, with a full-day industrial tour for the delegates to the state-of-art Grain-based ethanol distiller of Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd. based in Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh). The trip promises to be an exhilarating excursion and knowledge trove for delegates to get a first-hand experience of how sugar mills in India are driving the sustainability mission of the ethanol blending programme by foraying into multiple feedstocks other than the staple molasses.

On Tuesday, the meeting begins with registration at the venue which is Bharat Mandapam. The opening ceremony will have invaluable addresses by Hon’ble Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Pralhad Joshi, Food Secretary, Sanjeev Chopra and Executive Director of ISO, José Orive.

Post the opening ceremony, several panel discussions like- Sustainability through Diversification, Green Hydrogen: Prospects and Challenges, Ease of doing cane farming: Mechanization & Modernisation, Digitization of sugar sector: Bringing Synergy among stakeholders, Strategy and Precision Farming Mahindra Tractors, Trade Patterns, Global Demand and Supply of Sugar etc, are planned.
