Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh: Red rot disease has affected about 120 bigha of sugarcane fields in Saharanpur district, specifically targeting the Co-0238 variety. The Sugarcane Department has stepped in to provide guidance to farmers on how to combat the disease.
In response to the spread of red rot, the Sugarcane Department has advised farmers to opt for alternative sugarcane varieties instead of Co-0238. Despite these recommendations, farmers in the district continue to prefer Co-0238 due to its perceived higher productivity. A recent survey jointly conducted by the Sugarcane Department and sugar mills showed widespread red rot infection in the sugarcane crops across the Deoband area.
According to officials from the Sugarcane Department, villages such as Khoja Nagla, Dudhli, Chiraun, Mohiddinpur, Nasrullahpur, Sunhati, Mirgpur, Dugchadi, Rampur, Badheri Kalan, Bachiti, Shimlana, Chhimaun, Jakhwala, Dhoomgarh, and Bhandera Khas in the Deoband area have been identified with red rot outbreaks in their sugarcane crops. The department continues to monitor the situation closely and provide necessary support to mitigate the impact of the disease on the sugarcane cultivation in the region.
