Farmers oppose registration of cane from private mills in Alanganallur cooperative mill: Media report

Madurai: At a grievance redress meeting held in Madurai, farmers expressed strong opposition to the registration of sugarcane from private sugar mills at the defunct National Cooperative Sugar Mills in Alanganallur, reported The Hindu.

They demanded action against officials involved in this unauthorized registration. N. Palanisamy, State president of the Tamil Nadu Sugarcane Farmers Association, highlighted that private mills from Sivaganga and Theni were registering sugarcane at the Alanganallur cooperative mills, which are currently non-functional. He argued that this practice was unfair, as local farmers in Madurai were being denied registration for processing their sugarcane, implying a possible ploy by private mills to undermine the cooperative sugar mill’s operations.

M.S. Sangeetha, the Collector, clarified that taking action against the officials was not within her immediate authority, but she assured that relevant legal provisions would be examined to address the issue.
