India, Brazil discuss bilateral economic relations in areas of sugar, ethanol

Ambassador of Brazil H.E Kenneth H. da Nobrega and Mr. Angelo Mauricio, Agricultural Attache, Embassy of Brazil, visited the Department of Food and Public Distribution (Ministry of Consumer Affairs).

Secretary of DFPD, Sanjeev Chopra, along with senior departmental officers, engaged in a comprehensive discussion covering various aspects of bilateral economic relations, particularly focusing on sugar, ethanol, food security, and exploring opportunities for diversification and fostering new avenues of cooperation.

India is set to host a significant global event in the sugar sector, the ‘ISO Council Meeting,’ scheduled in New Delhi from June 25th to 27th, 2024. Delegates from more than 30 countries and representatives of many international organisations are joining to deliberate on critical issues of sugar and biofuel sector.

As India is the world’s largest consumer and second largest producer of sugar, ISO Council nominated India as the Chair of the organisation for 2024.
