For the first time in several months, water availability in the Eastern region is marginally lower than the corresponding period of last year. As per the CWC report of 27th June 2024, water available in the reservoirs located in the Eastern region is 3.643 BCM which is 17.83% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 17.84% and the average storage of the last ten years is 23%.
Overall the country’s water availability across the reservoirs is 36.368 BCM, which is 20% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. Last year the live storage available in these reservoirs for the corresponding period was 46.369 BCM and the average storage of the last 10 years is 42.645 BCM, indicating a decline in the current year.
In the Northern region, water available across the reservoirs is 5.239 BCM which is 27% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 39% and the average storage of the last 10 years was 31%.
In the Western region, water available in the reservoirs is 7.471 BCM which is 20.12% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 23% and the average storage of the last 10 years was 20.28%.
In the Central region, water available in the reservoirs is 11.693 BCM which is 24% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 32% and the average storage of the last 10 years was 26%.
In the Southern region, water available in the reservoirs is 8.322 BCM which is 16% of the total live storage capacity of these reservoirs. The storage during the corresponding period of last year was 20% and the average storage of the last 10 years was 22%.
