Bangladesh: Smuggled sugar worth TK 2 crore seized in Netrokona

On Wednesday, a total of 3,064 sacks of smuggled sugar were seized from different areas in the border upazila of Kamalkanda, Netrokona district in Bangladesh, reported local media.

The operation was carried out jointly by the upazila administration, police, and BGB, under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Sahidul Islam. The areas covered included Lengura, Bolmath, Kurakhali, and Kosugora, spanning from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm.

Acting on confidential information, a mobile court conducted raids in these locations, seizing 3,064 sacks of smuggled sugar from various residences and shops. According to Md Sahidul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Kamalkanda upazila, the smugglers managed to evade capture upon becoming aware of the operation.

He also mentioned that the estimated value of the seized sugar amounts to TK 2 crore.
