Gopalganj: The Bihar government has announced plans to survey the flood-damaged sugarcane crops and provide compensation after assessing the losses, reported News 18 Bihar.
Krishna Nandan Paswan, Bihar’s Sugarcane Industry Minister and District in charge, inspected the flood-affected sugarcane fields in Gopalganj and confirmed the government’s commitment to compensating farmers for their losses.
Minister Paswan stated that discussions were held with the Principal Secretary and the Cane Commissioner, resulting in directives to assess the crop damage. “Compensation will be provided based on the damage report,” Paswan stated, assuring sugarcane farmers who have seen their crops heavily damaged by the Gandak River’s floodwaters.
The government plans to conduct a comprehensive survey of the flood-damaged crops across Bihar and will issue compensation after thorough damage assessments. Minister Paswan emphasized that recommendations for compensation will be submitted to the Chief Minister upon receiving the damage report, ensuring that farmers receive the necessary financial assistance.
The floods from the Gandak River have severely impacted farmers in Gopalganj, submerging fields of ready-to-harvest sugarcane and causing significant damage to paddy crops as well. Farmers in areas such as Rajwahi, Jagiri Tola, Dukhaharan, Malahi Tola, Mehndia, and Ramnagar have suffered substantial losses and are demanding compensation for their damaged crops.
