Vietnamese sugar company to invest to expand sugar and biomass power plants

Quảng Ngãi Sugar Joint Stock Company has announced a investment exceeding VNĐ2 trillion (€72 million) to expand its An Khê sugar processing plant and biomass power plant.

The company is allocating VNĐ1.169 trillion (€42 million) to boost the sugar processing capacity at the An Khê plant in Gia Lai to 25,000 tonnes per day. Preparations for this ambitious project began in June, and the plant is slated to be operational by November 2027. This expansion aims to stabilise the sugarcane supply, enhance deep processing activities, and maintain Quảng Ngãi Sugar’s leading position in Vietnam’s sugar industry.

In addition to the sugar plant expansion, a significant investment is being made in the An Khê biomass power plant. The project involves the installation of a 40MW generator, which will increase the total design capacity to 135MW. The biomass power plant aims to utilize bagasse, a byproduct of sugar production, to generate clean energy, address environmental issues, and support the annual load growth in Gia Lai and the central region.

Furthermore, Quảng Ngãi Sugar is planning to invest in other infrastructure projects, including the construction of a B1 warehouse at the Biscafun confectionery plant and the installation of a fire prevention system at the Vinasoy Bắc Ninh plant, both starting in July 2024.
