Bhogpur residents protest proposed bio-cng plant at sugar mill

Jalandhar: Residents of Bhogpur have protested against the proposed construction of a bio-CNG plant at the Bhogpur sugar mill. On Wednesday, Adampur MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli met with V K Singh, the Chief Minister’s special secretary, in Chandigarh to voice his opposition to the project, reported Times of India.

A statement from the joint commissioner of Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, published by a local section of the media, indicated that solid waste from Jalandhar city would be transported to the bio-CNG plant in Bhogpur, with plans to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for this purpose soon. This announcement sparked protests among residents of Bhogpur.

A public meeting was held on Monday where opposition to the plant was discussed with MLA Kotli in attendance. On Tuesday, he visited the sugar mill to get more project details.

“I informed the Chief Minister’s special secretary that residents strongly oppose this plan,” said Kotli on Wednesday. “Large quantities of garbage would be brought into Bhogpur, disrupting the lives of those already residing near the mill. We will categorically oppose the construction of this plant,” he added.
