Shamli: Farmers warn of protest if sugarcane dues are not cleared by September 21

Shamli, Uttar Pradesh: A farmers’ panchayat was held at the Shamli Sugarcane Cooperative Society regarding outstanding sugarcane payments. During the panchayat, officials from the sugarcane department of Upper Doab Sugar Mill assured the farmers that the sugarcane dues from the last season would be paid between September 15 and September 21, while the dues for the current crushing season would be settled by August 25. The farmers warned that if the payments are not made on time, they will be forced to take to the streets and protest, reported Amar Ujala.

The meeting was presided over by Virendra Singh. Present at the event were DCO Ranjit Singh Kushwaha, Sugarcane Committee Secretary Omprakash Singh, Simbhalkha Dharmendra Singh, Ravindra Singh, Arvind Jhal, Iqbal Barla Jat, Karmveer Kaserva Kala, Sukram Pal Kaserva Khurd, Kultar, Vipin, Rajiv Goharni, and other sugarcane farmers. The proceedings were conducted by Prabhat Malik.

During the meeting, farmers expressed their frustration, stating that the delay in pending sugarcane payments had hindered their ability to pay school fees and forced them to cancel several household events. They reiterated their demand for prompt payment.
