Former NSI Director to advise South African sugar industry on growth and development

Prof. Narendra Mohan, former Director of the National Sugar Institute, Kanpur, will visit South Africa from August 11-17, 2024, to offer guidance on various issues related to the growth and development of the country’s sugar industry. This visit marks a rare honor extended by the South African sugar sector to an Indian sugar technologist.

During his visit, Prof. Mohan will first consult with the Sugar Milling Research Institute on its role in providing trained personnel and conducting research for the sugar industry. He will then deliver a keynote address at the Congress of the South African Sugar Technologists Association on “Sustainability of the Sugar Industry through Diversification.” The congress will feature delegates from approximately 30 countries.

Additionally, Prof. Mohan will engage with the South African Sugar Association to provide recommendations on enhancing the economic sustainability of the sugar industry. He will also discuss the initiatives taken by the Indian sugar industry over the past year, including the production of bio-ethanol, compressed bio-gas, bio-electricity, and other bio-products.
